Defence firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited plans to set up a leadership development centre in Bangalore as it seeks to regenerate the company with employee-friendly initiatives.
"We have plans to develop a world-class leadership development centre in Bangalore", the defence public sector undertaking's Director (Personnel and Administration) Sanjeev Sahi told PTI in Bangalore.
A couple of sites are being explored for the proposed centre, which will have a capacity to train 300-400 people at a time, Sahi said.
"We will also be utilising it as a centre of excellence so that over a period of time, we are able to build leadership", he said. Sahi said HAL, which was recently accorded the Navratna status, has this year introduced performance and programme linked pay packets to 'dramatically'
improve ways of working.
"We have improved the compensation structure". "We have many programmes (like Jaguar, Hawk and ALH), the success of which is very crucial to us. These programmes have got key people", he said, adding that the programme linked pay is encouraging, motivating and inspiring the workforce to do better.
"We are trying to bring about a unique sense of ownership". HAL, which is implementing the principles of lean manufacturing, is looking to recruit multi-skilled workmen and officers with a set of competencies, he said, adding that consultants Ernst & Young have been drafted to suggest ways of building competency development.
As part of the strategy, the Bangalore-based company has now started outsourcing complete work packages, not just low and medium tech components, Sahi said.
