Real Good Chicken, the flagship brand of Godrej Agrovet Ltd and a leading player in the fresh chicken category in the Indian market has received the HACCP and ISO 9001-2000 certification from Det Norke Veritas for its chicken processing plant at Taloja near Mumbai.

DNV Mumbai is the Indian branch of DNV Certification headquartered in The Netherlands. Real Good Chicken received both these certifications recently.

With the Taloja plant being awarded both the Food Safety System and Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2000) certificates, it is now fully food safety management system compliant.

According to C K Vaidya,  Managing Director, Godrej Agrovet Ltd., "HACCP is a prevention-based food safety system. It provides a systematic method for analysing food processes, determining the possible hazards, and designating the critical control points necessary to prevent unsafe food from reaching the consumer. HACCP is based on the Codex Alimentarius developed by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization. The standards set by DNV, The Netherlands are the most stringent and accepted worldwide and we are happy that our Taloja plant has met their requirements."

Speaking on the ISO Certification, B S Yadav, General Manager, Integrated Poultry Business, said that, "The objective of the internationally recognized ISO 9001:2000 standard is to set international requirements for Quality Management Systems. ISO 9001:2000 is the latest version of the standard, issued December 15, 2000 and has combined the 1994 ISO editions. The new standard places more emphasis on continual improvement and customer satisfaction than the 1994 versions. It applies to the processes of an organisation that influence quality."

Summing up both the certifications received by the RGC plant, S S Shere, Factory Manager, RGC Taloja plant said that, "In a nutshell, both these certifications mean that the food safety system at the RGC plant at Taloja has been measured against the best practice standard and found compliant. Not only this, the plant has also met the major quality management system clauses in the new standard viz. Quality Management System, Management Responsibility, Resource Management, Product Realisation, Measurement, Analysis, and Improvement. Since these certifications are issued by third party certifying bodies, consumers can rest assured that the products consumed by them have passed through strict hygiene and quality standards."
