Capgemini, one of the world leaders in consulting, technology and outsourcing services, on Monday announced launch of a 500-seat new center in the city, the third such in India after Mumbai and Bangalore.
"Kolkata has always been known for its talent and intellect and the launch of our center will help us achieve our objective of employing over 10,000 people by 2007 by adding highly talented individuals," said Capgemini (India) CEO Baru Rao.
He said that Capgemini (India) has over 100 global customers, including many Fortune 500 companies, and is committed to high quality and continuous process improvement.
Speaking at the launch programme, Global Head of the Capgemini Outsourcing Services said ''with already several hundreds of employees in India, the opening of the Kolkata center is another major step in the strengthening of Capgemini's Rightshore network of BPO centers, competing with the strong presence at Krakow in Poland and at Guangzhou in China.
Spence said that Capgemini was surging ahead in expansion plans in India in this field.
To a question if he was aware about trade union activities in Kolkata, Spence said: "We are not concerned about it and we have confidence in the management team capacity."
