US car major Ford on Monday said it has got an approval from the Central government to supply its sedan Ikon Flair for institutional purchases.
The company said its Indian subsidiary, Ford India, has entered into a tie-up with the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D), the central purchase and quality assurance organisation of the government, for the same.
"The Ikon will be available to government departments at a special rate and is an endorsement of the superiority of the Ikon as a preferred sedan in the entry level midsize segment," the company said in a statement.
"Fleet sales operations form an integral part of our aggressive sales programme. The approval by the DGS&D is great news and endorses the popularity and the quality of the Ikon," Ford India Vice President (Marketing, Sales and Service) Scott McCormack said.
In the past, Ford India had supplied its SUV Endeavour and sedan Fiesta to various government and public sector undertakings across various states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka among others.
Besides the Ikon, Ford India sells sedan Fiesta, compact car Fusion, SUV Endeavour in India.
