Ford offers Rs 91,000 discount on Fiesta

December 04, 2008 09:33 IST

Owing to a huge drop in demand for cars lately, Chennai-based Ford Motor India, has offered a huge discount of Rs 91,000 on its popular Fiesta, a mid-sized sedan, just six months after it was launched in India.

The discount offer comes on the back of Japanese giant Honda Siel Cars offering a substantial discount of Rs 800,000 on the Civic Hybrid. HSCI sold 235 Civic Hybrids, which carried a priced tag of Rs 14 lakhs (Rs 1.4 million) after the discount, in 10 days.

The offer by Ford will run on the full range of variants of the car for a limited period of 10 days starting Wednesday. The car will now be available for Rs 5,29,000 (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the base variant of the 1.6 (petrol) EXi as against its normal price of Rs 6,20,000.

The company, however hasn't been as aggressive for the diesel model while offering discounts. The base variant Fiesta 1.4 (turbo-diesel) EXi will be sold for Rs 6,59,000 as compared to Rs 7,10,000 earlier.

According to a senior executive in the company, the slowdown in vehicle off-take during the previous months has added extra stock at the dealers' end.
