Who wants to marry a billionaire?

March 15, 2005 15:48 IST

Looking to get hitched and rich?

Forget about trawling the bars and the singles sites. We have taken the guesswork out of finding a suitable mate of 'independent means.'

The list of the ten most eligible people in the world is culled from the Forbes ranking of the world's richest people. All these singles are billionaires, and most of them are under 40. Try searching for that on Match.com.

Topping any young woman's most eligible bachelor list would have to be Albert von Turn und Taxis. At 21, he is not only the youngest billionaire in the world but also a German prince.

Also from Germany is Stefan Quandt, the 39-year-old heir to the BMW fortune. But ladies, be warned: You are going to have to work to track this guy down. Quandt hates the limelight.

Rather marry an American? You could try hanging outside the Mountain View, Calif., headquarters of Internet search giant Google. Boyish billionaires Larry Page, 32, and Sergey Brin, 31, still report to work at the company they founded.

Then there's Jeffrey Skoll of eBay, Mikhail Prokhorov of Norilsk Nickel, David Filo of Yahoo!, Dietrich Mateschitz of Red Bull, and Richard Li of PCCW. All billionaires, all single.

Sorry, guys, there is only one women on our most eligible list (women billionaires are very rare). But what a catch! At 51, Oprah Winfrey is still on the air, still beautiful, still rich and still single.
