Ficci delegation to visit China

A 25-member business delegation led by Yogendra Kumar Modi, senior vice-president, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will be leaving for Beijing & Shanghai, China on June 22, coinciding with the visit of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to China, to identify niche areas for enhancing partnership with the Chinese industry.

Some corporate leaders who will be part of the delegation are : Sudhir Jalan of Sicpa India Ltd, K K Modi of Modi Enterprises, Anirudh Dhoot of Videocon International, Ravi Ruia of Essar, Vijay Verma of Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd and  V. Rajanna of Tata Information Technology.

Apart from the crucial business seminars in Beijing and Shanghai, Ficci and its Chinese counterpart -- the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) -- will be holding the 11th meeting of India-China JBC.

Some critical issues constraining bilateral trade between the countries will be discussed elaborately at this meeting.

Problems in negotiation of letter of credits owing to weak banking links, which could affect steel exports to China, slow progress of bilateral protocol on exports of mango and other fruits from India and China, possibility of exchanging tariff lines under Bangkok Agreement in thrust sectors of mutual interest will be raised with the Chinese counterparts.

This visit will witness unfolding of Ficci's initiative jointly with CCPIT towards publication of India China Business Guidebook to facilitate business tie-ups between different provinces and markets in China.

Chinese provinces work quite autonomously with regard to developing its business synergies and economic linkages.

Apart from sectoral presentations on IT, pharmaceuticals, steel and textiles, Ficci will be signing a pact with the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation  to document perspectives of leading opinion makers with regard to the direction towards Indo-Chinese future economic cooperation.
