"We are investing in India by introducing a number of service improvements, including a new trucking network, almost doubling the number of employees, doubling the number of branded facilities and a new westbound flight from Delhi," Robert W Elliott, FedEx Corp president in Europe, Middle East and Africa said.
He, however, declined to comment on the investments the company was putting in for its Indian expansion. "We would prefer to talk about of our capabilities rather than in dollar terms," he said.
The company has added five new weekly flights from Delhi westbound, taking the total number of weekly flights to 16.
It has also increased its trucking network by connecting 11 key exporting areas, including Jaipur, Agra, Ludhiana, Pune, Nasik, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Tirupur.
"We are expanding the number of clearance gateways from Indian cities to 15," he said, adding FedEx is also increasing the number of its retail outlets to 74 in 54 cities from the present 36 in 11 cities making a total of 250 with its Indian partner, Pafex.
Asked about plans to strengthen its employee count in India, Elliott said it has added 184 new personnel taking the total number to 425.
He said the express transporter has also increased its capacity to and from India to 2,100 tonnes a week by adding 900 tonnes a week in Delhi sector.
