Farmers assured support from Maha govt

A farmer looks at the skyDistrict guardian minister Sunil Deshmukh has assured complete support to farmers in tackling the drought-like situation in Maharashtra and said that the state goverment was firmly behind them during the crisis.

"Despite achieving spectacular success on different fronts, drought concerns looms large over the state on account of inadequate and irregular monsoon. To counter the situation, the state government is firmly behind the farmers and the people," Deshmukh said.

The minister was addressing a gathering at Amravati after unfurling the tri-colour on the Independence Day.

He said that the government was committed for the development of the farmers and in drought-like situation and it had distributed Rs. 114.81 crore (Rs 1.14 billion) to them through cro insurance scheme.

Farmers in the district have received Rs. 26.55 crore (Rs 265.5 million) thus far. As for irrigation, 126 projects in the division have been approved and 94 of them have been completed, Deshmukh said adding work on 13 projects in Amravati district was in progress.

Also, all public representatives were co-operating in facing the scarcity situation, he said.

Crops in the farm would suffer heavy losses and the water scarcity would worsen if it did not rain in next 10 days, Deshmukh said.

He urged the district administration to initiate measures to deal with the situation and assured complete help from the government.
