The Global Organisation of Persons of Indian Origin, Malaysia, through its Hyderabad-based authorised agent SKAB Impex, is organising an International Indian Trade Fair 2003 at Kuala Lumpur from July 5 to 27.

The fair is supported by the Indian High Commission in Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia. GOPIO has presence in over 22 countries and several years of experience in organising trade fairs.

The objective of the expo, says Anil Bhardwaj of SKAB Impex, is to enable access to Indian products to the people of Indian origin living abroad.

It will feature a wide range of Indian products like handicrafts, textiles, jewellery, spices and condiments, sarees, Punjabi suits, women accessories, leather items, packaged foods etc. It will also serve as a one-stop for shopping-cum-entertainment to Indian and International traders.

The Indian Diaspora in Malaysia's is around 1.6 million, constituting the third largest ethnic group after the Chinese and the Malays. Tamils (South Indians) constitute about 80 per cent of the total Indian community in Malaysia.

Given these numbers, the expo is expected to benefit the Indian settlers in Malaysia. The expo is the first in series of trade fairs planned for the international Indian business community.

It is expected to attract over 300,000 Indian, Malaysian and International business men as well as NRI customers.

The organisers have designed a unique package for the exhibitors, the press release stated.
