Maintaining that the economic policy of the United Progressive Alliance government has failed, the Communist Party of India on Saturday said the Left parties would raise major issues like the agrarian crisis, including suicide by farmers, food crisis, price rise divestment and general economic conditions in the country in the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

"Their economic policy has failed. There are several issues we would raise in Parliament -- the food procurement policy, food crisis, crisis in agriculture – Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar owes an explanation on all these counts," party leader in Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta, along with CPI national secretary D Raja, told reporters in New Delhi.

After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Vidarbha, 15 farmers committed suicide there, he said, adding only loan waivers was not enough to mitigate the problems faced by them.

Dasgupta and Raja said economic indicators like the index of industrial production was on the decline and even the IT sector was witnessing stagnation. "The UPA must explain the successes and failures of its policies during the two-year rule," Dasgupta said.

The CPI leaders said the crisis in the industrial sector and the "sale of national assets" would also be raised forcefully in Parliament by the Left.

They attacked the BJP for its decision to stall proceedings on the opening day of the session on July 24 on the Mumbai blasts issue and said, "the Bharatiya Janata Party or any other party should not politicise a terrorist attack. They are polluting the political atmosphere in the country".
