Drought: Maha contingency fund raised by Rs 350 cr

A dry piece of landMaharashtra Cabinet on Friday decided to raise contingency fund by Rs 350 crore (Rs 3.5 billion) to combat drought in the state.

"The present Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.5 billion) limit of the fund is being raised by Rs 350 crore so that effective steps could be taken in emergency to tackle drought and inflation," a senior official said after the meeting.

The Cabinet also approved making a provision of Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) towards combating water scarcity situation and Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) towards setting up of fodder camps.

It also okayed creation of 542 revenue circles in the state.

The Cabinet approved various steps to tide over the Rs 296 crore (Rs 2.96 billion) accumulated losses of State Transport corporation.
