The air traffic rose 18.35 per cent in May on a y-o-y basis, and IndiGo retained its No. 1 position amongst domestic airlines growing its market share to 38.9 per cent.

In May, domestic airlines flew 7.1 million passengers as against six million in the same month last year. May is the peak season for leisure travel and all airlines reported growth in occupancy over the previous month.

SpiceJet reported the highest load factor of 93.1 per cent followed by IndiGo (91.9 per cent) and GoAir (89 per cent). Vistara's loads too improved from 67 per cent in April to 71 per cent in May.

Vistara topped the list for on-time performance with 98.5 per cent punctuality record followed by AirAsia, Jet and IndiGo all of which reported punctuality between 80-86 per cent. Vistara and AirAsia also reported zero cancellations in the month.

Between January and May, IndiGo's market share has risen from 36.4 to 38.9 per cent. Market share of SpiceJet and Vistara (which began operations in January) rose but all other airlines reported a decline.

Air India's share in the domestic traffic has declined from 18.7 per cent to 15.8 per cent in May.
