After a hiatus of over a year, the city police swung into action arresting a person, Alok Biyani, in connection with the multi-crore scam at the Calcutta Stock Exchange in March 2001.

Biyani, a proclaimed offender, was arrested from the NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata on Tuesday night while he was preparing to board a flight to Australia, police said on Wednesday.

Biyani was allegedly operating the Australian businesses of Dinesh Dalmiya, one of the prime accused in the scam. Dalmiya, wanted in connection with the scam, was managing director of DSQ Software Limited.

Alok Biyani and his father Harish Biyani were charged with duping the exchange of several crores in connivance with Dalmiya, sources said.

His firm had defaulted in payment to the exchange and he was declared a proclaimed offender after he failed to appear before the police for interrogation last year, CSE sources said.
