US-based CSC to set up design centre in Hyderabad

The US-based Cypress Semiconductor Corporation plans to spend $15 million to establish a design centre in Hyderabad during the second quarter of the year.

Paul Keswick, senior vice president, CSC, told reporters in Hyderabad on Thursday that the company, which has a presence in Bangalore, will soon expand its activities using local engineering talent.

The Andhra Pradesh the government has been urged to provide the necessary infrastructure.

He said the $770-million turnover company, which excels in designing complex integrated chips, have two chip fabrication facilities in the United States at Minnesota and Texas, and an assembly and test plant at Manila in the Philippines.

Initially, the company plans to begin its operations in Hyderabad with the small staff and then appoint about 200 engineers by the end of 2005, Keswick said.
