Sixteen thousand employees, 39 branches and double-digit growth - India is high on the Citigroup radar. The seventh most powerful woman in the world Sallie Krawcheck, the chief financial officer at Citigroup, is visiting India for the second time this year, reports CNBC-TV18.
She's in India for just 24 hours, not to make any announcements but for a quick business review.
Sally Krawcheck is the third top Citigroup management official to hit the country in the last year, after Citigroup CEO Chuck Prince and chairman Robert Rubin. If that doesn't underscore the importance of India in Citi's global plans, this will.
Private banking and brokerage - all that's routine expansion on the anvil, what's not so routine is that Citi never sleeps.
Citigroup recently purchased an additional 9.3 per cent stake in India's largest home finance company HDFC. That takes Citi's total stake to 12.3 per cent, bought reportedly at a cost of $900 million. Analysts say this could be a strategic move as HDFC in turn owns over 20 per cent in HDFC Bank.
At 41, Sallie Krawcheck is probably the youngest CFO in such a powerful job. On the Forbes list she ranks as the 7th most powerful woman in the world.
