City, Endeavour bag top honours

Honda Siel's mid-size car City, Ford's Endeavour sports-utility-vehicle and Bajaj Auto's Wind motorcycle bagged the top honours at the 3rd CNBC Autocar awards in New Delhi.

The Honda City bagged the 'Car of the year' award for 2003 while Endeavour was adjudged as the 'SUV of the year'. The 125cc Bajaj Wind was awarded the 'Bike of the year' award.

Maruti Udyog has been selected as the 'Manufacturer of the year'.

The other winners included Tata Safari EXi, Mercedes Benz SL500, Chevrolet Optra and Chevrolet Forester.

For the first time, the contribution of the auto ancillary industry was acknowledged with awards going to Bharat Forge, MICO and the Anand Group for their performance in product development and production of auto components.

New models of passenger cars, SUV's and motorcycles introduced in the year 2003 were eligible for the awards instituted by television channel, CNBC and Auto Car India magazine.
