British telecom company Cable & Wireless said on Thursday it has become the first global firm to get all security clearances from the government to roll out its multi-service platform in the country.

The company has set up its new network platform in India entailing an investement of $30 million which would offer telecom and connectivitysolutions to over 150 customers in the country including banking, insurance and software firms, Cable & Wireless India managing director Sunanda Das said.

He further said that the new network has been designed to deliversub-second re-routing of traffic via alternative cable systems, ensuringminimal impact to businesses if any cable failure occurs.

This assumes more importance as recently under-sea cable breaks near Alexandria, Egypt, had disrupted services across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Cable & Wireless has set up its own International gateways (two in Mumbai and two in Chennai) and has received the Lawful Interception and Monitoring Solution clearances.
