Cabinet reshuffle? Sonia meets PM

December 10, 2008 22:15 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi had a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday.

The meeting comes amid speculation in party circles that an expansion-cum-reshuffle of the Union Cabinet could be carried out soon.

There has been talk that there would be a new Finance Minister with the Prime Minister reportedly keen to hand over the responsibility of the key ministry to someone else.

Singh is holding the charge of Finance after P Chidambaram was shifted to Home in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks which saw exit of Shivraj Patil from the cabinet.

The names of eminent economist C Rangarajan, former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, Union Minister Kapil Sibal and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had been doing the rounds for the Finance portfolio.

Interestingly, Rangarajan and Krishna on Wednesday met the Prime Minister separately in his Parliament House office.
