Railways to have 375 model stations

The Indian Railways will develop 375 adarsh stations duringĀ 2009-10 with basic facilities like drinking water, adequate toilets, catering services, waiting rooms etc.

This was announced by theĀ minister of railways, Mamata Banerjee, while presenting the Railway Budget 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

These stations will have dormitories especially for lady passengers, will be equipped wih better signage among other facilities. The Indian Railways have already identified 309 stations for the scheme.

In addition, keeping in mind the aged and people with physical disabilities, standard ramps, earmarked parking lots, and specially designed coaches in each mail and express train, lifts and escalators would be provided in a phased manner.
