Political circles in the national capital are agog with the speculation that United Progressive Alliance government wants to delink the Budget Session of Parliament from the 2G spectrum logjam.
Sources indicate that the UPA political leadership is seriously negotiating with the Opposition parties for a possible special session of Parliament.
It is being contemplated that a three-day special session of Parliament could be held in mid-February 2011 to end the impasse in Parliament over the 2G spectrum scam and thus enable a smooth Budget Session of Parliament.
These three days, the Lok Sabha will discuss only the 2G spectrum scam. The prime minister will reply to the charges on the concluding day, sources said.
This suggestion, sources said, came from Pranab Mukherjee, the Union finance minister and the Congress's ace trouble-shooter, when he had a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar recently.
Armed with the support of the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mukherjee is planning to hold meetings individually with major opposition parties like Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, and the Left parties to suggest the idea of holding a special session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 2G scam in mid-February.
Will the BJP and the Left agree to this idea is a matter of speculation.
