The human resource development ministry is slated to introduce a bill in the monsoon session of the Parliament to provide for an internationally acceptable certification for Indian engineers.
The bill, which would provide phased certification for upgradation of skills acquired, would help engineers from Indian colleges to get jobs overseas.
The Bill would be of great significance in the backdrop of the interests shown by MNCs, P N Shali, director, Engineering Council of India said while speaking at the conference of engineers.
"The Engineers Bill would also regulate the profession. It will lay down the
criteria for the process of registration of professional engineers and consulting engineering organisations and enlist a statutory framework in this regard", he said.
The bill when enacted, is expected to bring about a landmark change in the acceptability of Indian engineers in the global marketplace as the apprehension about their ability to deliver would be obliviated by the certification of their talent by the ECI, he added.
A draft Bill has been prepared by the ECI for the consideration of the government. The ECI plans to implement a continuing programme development initiative for engineers to maintain competency at the work place.
