December 16, 2002 15:16 IST

The New York-based Smithsonian Group named Harish Bijoor, who just quit as COO of Zip Telecom, a consultant for its $2 billion venture capital fund.

Bijoor said his consultancy venture - Harish Bijoor Consults - will take on a set of clients for the Smithsonian, essentially start-ups in the region covering South East Asia and the United Kingdom.

"The pact with the Smithsonian Group will cover 20-hours of consultancy a week. In addition, I will take on American and Indian clients in the areas of business strategy, marketing and brand trategy," Bijoor said.

Bijoor said his consultancy will work on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis. Besides putting together a business, marketing and brand plan for the client organisations, he will also build the infrastructure for the plan and operate the project for at least eight months. During the period, the staff of the client company will be involved in the operations of the project.

"In other words, I will be putting my money where my mouth is," said Bijoor, adding, "If my plans do not work, then I will be responsible for it".

"I am excited about becoming an entrepreneur after 17 and a half years with big names like Levers, Tatas and with Zip Telecom," Bijoor added.
