Chairman of Bajaj Auto, Rahul Bajaj says that if he becomes a member of the Rajya Sabha he will not be a silent spectator.

Bajaj said that after learning and depending on the opportunities he gets, he will keep it in the front of the Upper House, whatever he believes is right for the nation. "I will not be a party and support one political party or another, but I will be supporting India," he added.

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with Rahul Bajaj:

You have always been vocal about the country and what you wanted to do for it but three months ago you did say that entering politics was the last thing on your mind, what changed your mind?

I haven't changed my mind. I said I don't intend joining politics and I don't believe I have joined politics. Some people are confused, they believe that becoming a Rajya Sabha MP means joining politics. But I am not a member of any political party. I am an independent candidate and not here to become a minister and neither am I working for a political party.

During the day you spoke about your agenda and your vision and the issues that you would like to raise, one was about the GDP growth at 9-10 per cent, what other issues are you expecting to raise if you go to the Rajya Sabha?

I don't want to be presumptuous. But once I am in the Rajya Sabha, I will not be speaking for 2-3 months nor will I be a silent spectator for the next four years in the Rajya Sabha.

Whatever issue is important at that time, for example apart from business and economic issues, apart from infrastructure, apart from labour policy, apart from the need to reduce corruption, but the issue currently important is about reservations. This is a not a simple matter and we are all for the downtrodden, for the people who have suffered, but the question is how to go about solving their problem.

After learning and depending on the opportunities I get, I will keep in the front of the Upper House whatever I believe is the right thing for the nation. I will not be a party and support one political party or another, but I will be supporting India.
