A new report from Autocar India states that Tata Motors will launch the Zica hatchback sometime in mid-February 2016. Previous reports, including a previous report on Autocar India, suggested that a market launch would take place on January 20, 2016, which is no longer the case.

To begin with, the Zica will get only manual transmissions with an AMT joining at a later stage.

According to the report, bookings for the Zica are expected to start early next month, during the Auto Expo 2016. Tata has hinted that pricing will be competitive, along the lines of the Maruti Celerio and the Hyundai Grand i10, which according to the company are the main rivals.

As reported earlier, the Zica debuts a new petrol engine family for Tata motors by way of the all-aluminium 1.2-liter Revotron unit.

This three-cylinder unit will develop 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque, and is estimated to deliver 20+ km/l. The 1.05-liter Revotorq diesel engine on the other hand outputs 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque.

The Zica will get dealer-level customisation options for the centre console, AC vents etc.

Both engines will be launched with a 5-speed manual transmission, but Tata has indicated that an AMT (automated manual transmission) will join the lineup in the future.

The Zica will also spawn a compact sedan which could be previewed at the Auto Expo 2016, though a launch may take place towards mid-2016. The compact sedan will replace the Indigo eCS in the private passenger vehicles segment.
