Japanese auto maker Nissan Motor Company on Tuesday said they were "well-on course" on introducing new products in India.

Nissan Motor along with French auto major Renault in February, 2008 had signed a MoU with Tamil Nadu government for setting up their manufacturing plant at Oragadam near here, with an investment of Rs 4,400 crore (Rs 44 billion) over a period of seven years.

The company introduced their first hatchback "Nissan Micra" produced from the Oragadam plant in July, 2010.

Commenting about their plans in India, Nissan Motor Company Senior Vice-President Dr Andy Palmer said they were well on course to introduce more products.

"We are on course to launch several new products (from the Oragadam plant)," he said at a function in Chennai.

The Oragadam plant has an initial capacity of 2 lakh units. It can be doubled in future as and when the demand increases.

For its exports, Nissan India also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ennore Port to export its vehicles through Ennore Port.

It made a exports trial to Barcelona with small numbers of Micra. In February, 2011 Nissan had sold 2,081 units with the newly launched compact car "Micra" clocking 2,030 units.

Besides Micra, Nissan currently retails luxury sedan Teana, SUV X-Trail and its iconic sports car 370Z as completely built units in India.
