Maruti Suzuki India said, on Thursday, as many as 20,427 units of its premium crossover model S-Cross need possible replacement of a faulty brake part and announced a 'free service campaign' to rectify the problem.

Without terming it a recall, the company said in a statement that the vehicles which need possible replacement of the faulty brake part were manufactured between April 20, 2015 and February 12, 2016.

"The service campaign applies to both the S-Cross variants (DDiS200 and DDIs320). The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost," it said.

Owners of the impacted vehicles will be contacted by dealers.

Service campaigns are undertaken globally by automobile companies to rectify faults that may potentially cause inconvenience to customers, it added.

The S-Cross is priced between Rs 803,000 and Rs 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and is sold through its premium retail outlet Nexa showrooms only.

Last year in March, the company had announced a recall of 33,098 units of its small car models Alto 800 and Alto K10 manufactured between December 8, 2014 and February 18, 2015 to rectify defective latches on right side doors.

Ever since the auto industry body SIAM started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in India in July 2012, nearly 18 lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers in India.
