Australia keen on IT, energy ties

Australian Prime Minister John Howard will visit India sometime early next year.

This was indicated when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had a meeting with Howard on the sidelines of the Association of South East Asian Nations' summit during which they emphasised on expanding the bilateral cooperation in various spheres including information technology and computer software.

Howard, during his 30-minute meeting with Singh, indicated possible cooperation in the energy sector particularly supply of liquified gas to India, external affairs ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.

Singh drew his counterpart's attention to the difficulties information technology professionals were having in getting visas to which he assured he would look into it. Singh told him that he looked forward to Howard's visit to India.
