Apple unveils new desktop range

Apple on Tuesday launched a latest version of its operating system for desktops and servers in India.

"Mac OS X version 10.4 'Tiger' has more than 200 new features including desktop search technology," Darren Sng, product marketing manager, Asia Pacific for Apple said.

The search technology 'Spotlight' enables users instantly find anything stored on their desktop.

Apart from 'Spotlight', the OS comes with a tool that enables users to instantly access important information using new class of applications widgets.

The OS will sell for Rs 7,260 for a single user while family pack with five-user license will be available for Rs 11,200.

Apple's latest OS for servers integrates over 100 leading open source projects and standards-based software applications with easy to use management tolls that make it easy to deploy for Mac, Windows and Linux clients.

It will be sold for Rs 27,190 for 10-client edition and Rs 54,080 for unlimited client edition.

Apart from its latest operating system a new line of Power Mac G5 desktops starting at Rs 99,100.

The company has also reduced the prices of widescreen flat panel displays. While 20-inch model will be available for Rs 53,300 and 23-inch high definition model will be available for Rs 96,600.
