The Kerala government has requested the centre to permit Air Arabia operate its flights from the state to the Gulf sector, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Tuesday.

Air Arabia was one of the international flight operators charging lesser fares, Chandy said, seeking steps to mitigate the travel problems of non-resident keralites.

The budget flight service of Air India Express has not achieved the desired results, he said, adding that he has taken up this issue with the civil aviation ministry.

As part of the efforts to find a permanent solution to the problems of non-resident keralites, the government was considering setting up a aviation company, he said.

The company that runs Nedumabassery International Airport at Kochi has been asked to prepare a detailed report on the proposed company.

The report was expected in three months, after which the government would take further steps, he said.
