Government nominates Bhaskarudu as new Maruti MD

The government on Wednesday nominated S S L N Bhaskarudu as the next managing director of Maruti Udyog Ltd.

Bhaskarudu, joint managing director of MUL, will succeed R C Bhargava, whose five-year term ended on Wednesday. Bhaskarudu was nominated at a board meeting held in New Delhi, which stretched on for five hours.

The government renominated the rest of the nine board members, MUL Director Anoop Mukherjee told the media.

However, the annual general meeting could not be held on Wednesday as the joint venture partner -- Suzuki Motor Corporation, did not consent to holding the AGM at a short notice.

Meanwhile, Suzuki has nominated Bhargava as the part-time chairman of the company. ''This will, however, be finalised at the next AGM to be held on September 22,'' Mukherjee added.
