In the month ended Oct. 13, 2008, a month that included the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the single worst week in the history of the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index, and the single best day in the history of the S&P 500, some stocks managed to put up very strong performances.

The S&P 1500 index was down 20.09% for this period, but the following were the 10 best-performing stocks, according to a screen conducted by S&P Equity Research.
