Promoter holding in RIL dips by 6% in Q2

Promoter holding in Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries [Get Quote] has come down by over six per cent, while foreign institutional investors and mutual funds have also decreased their holding in the firm in the second quarter this fiscal.

The promoter holding in RIL dropped to 44.80 per cent at the end of September quarter from 51.37 per cent in the June quarter, according to latest shareholding information available on the bourses.

Foreign institutional investors, which had held 17.11 per cent at the end of June quarter in the company, reduced their exposure in the firm to 16.97 per cent in the July-September period.

Besides, mutual funds also reduced their holding in the firm to 2.69 per cent in the past quarter from 2.83 per cent in the first quarter this fiscal.

However, insurance companies have increased their holding in RIL to 6.26 per cent in the September quarter as against 5.94 per cent in the previous period.

Amid bearish sentiments on the domestic bourses due to the global financial crisis, the RIL scrip dropped about 5 per cent in July-September period, while it also witnessed its share prices falling below the Rs 2,000-mark.

The market capitalisation of RIL has also fallen below the Rs 3-trillion mark and at present it stands at around Rs 2.77 lakh crore.
