India Inc needs moral leadership: Mukesh Ambani

March 26, 2008

Lamenting that ethical values and moral leadership is dwindling in Indian businesses, Reliance Industries [Get Quote] Chairman Mukesh Ambani has called upon the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) graduates to fill the void of moral leadership.

Speaking at the 33rd convocation of the business school in Bangalore, of which he is the Chairman of Board of Governors, he said the IIM-B graduates could make a change in the world of business.

The Asian continent would become the driver of the world businesses, he added.

He explained to the graduates the importance of building leadership in every place. ''Leadership will make the difference when it comes to grabbing the opportunities. You will be at the helm and make sure you follow clean practices,'' he said.

Stating that institutes like IIMs provide global leaders in today's knowledge economy, he said ''IIM-B is turning out graduates of such high calibre and India is benefitting from it.''

After presenting the graduation certificates and gold medals at the convocation on Tuesday Ambani said, ''Such occasions are unforgettable landmarks in one's life, which mark the beginning of a new voyage.''

Earlier the institute's Director Pankaj Chandra said 424 students were leaving the portals of the institute, after successfully completing their programmes.

''All IIM-B students underwent a global experience through summer internships, practice in international business and the exchange programmes,'' he added.

Sahil Barua, son of IIM-A Director Samir Barua, was adjudged as the 'Best All Round student', while Amit Gupta, Abhishek Agarwal, Subrata Nath, Srisankar Swaminathan Kunniyur and Amit Agarwal won the gold medals for top scorers.
