While Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata is close to seeing his dream project -- the launch of the Rs 1-lakh 'people's car' -- become a reality, pundits and environmentalists across the country are quite sceptical of the consequences it will have on India's already strained infrastructure.

Even as Tata rattles other car companies -- including Maruti [Get Quote] Suzuki, Honda and Toyota -- most Indians are  waiting with bated breath to catch a glimpse of the car, which will be unveiled at the Auto Expo in Delhi on January 10.

Can India handle a likely surge in the number of cars? Will this car be environmentally safe? Will you buy this car?
