Reliance Industries [Get Quote] is likely to start natural gas production from its eastern offshore KG-D6 block by January, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dinsha Patel informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question, he said commercial production of oil from Reliance KG-DWN-98/3 block or KG-D6 commenced in September at the rate of 10,000 barrels of oil per day.

"The gas production from the Block KG-DWN-98/3 is expected to commence by January 2009," he said.

Reliance and its Canadian partner Niko Resources has established 570 million tons of oil and oil equivalent gas reserves in the block.

The Gujarat State Petroleum Corp has discovered 45.3 million tons of oil and oil equivalent gas reserves in the neighbouring KG-OSN-2001/3 block, he added.
