Maruti sold 63,086 cars in Sep

Maruti [Get Quote] Suzuki India Ltd reported on Monday a 11.4 per cent jump in its domestic sales during September at 63,086 units against 56,606 units in the same month last year.

The company's exports during the month grew 55 per cent at 4,362 units compared to 2,814 units in September a year ago.

Sales of MSIL's flagship hatchback M800 in September declined 32 per cent at 5,221 units against 7,680 units, while sales in the C segment comprising multi-utility vehicles, Omni and Versa, dipped 12.9 per cent at 6,350 units, MSIL said in a statement.

In the A2 segment comprising hatchbacks Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift, the company's sales grew 21.8 per cent in September at 46,216 units compared to 37,955 units in the same month a year ago.

Sales of sedans, Esteem and SX4, in the A3 segment were up by 43.3 per cent in the month at 4,885 units against 3,410 units in September 2006, MSIL said.

SUV Grand Vitara and gypsy reported sales of 414 units during the month compared to 272 units in the same month previous year, up 52.2 per cent month-on-month.

For the first six months of the current fiscal, the company's overall sales in the domestic market were up 17.5 per cent at 3,36,758 units against 2,86,622 units in the corresponding period last fiscal.

During the period MSIL sold 2,33,102 units in the A2 segment up 21.9 per cent year-on-year. Sales in the A3 segment were also up 57.7 per cent at 25,174 units.

Exports during April-September period also 51.4 per cent at 24,236 units against 16,009 units in the same period last fiscal.

GM sold 5,751 cars in September: General Motors India reported on Monday a 64 per cent increase in its domestic vehicle sales during September at 5,751 units against 3,506 units in the same month last year.

Sales in September comprise of 1,953 units of MUV Chevrolet Tavera, 1,559 units of hatchback and sedan Chevrolet Aveo, 738 units of premium sedan Chevrolet Optra and 1,501 units of its small car Chevrolet Spark, GM India said in a statement.

M&M passenger vehicle sales up 24.9%: Mahindra and Mahindra reported on Monday a 24.9 per cent increase in its domestic vehicle sales during September at 18,569 units against 14,865  in the corresponding month a year ago.

Sales in September included 2,185 units of its mid-sized sedan Mahindra Renault Logan, M&M said in a statement.

Exports during the month grew 23.41 per cent at 1,302 vehicles against 1,055 units in September last year.

Cumulative sales (including exports) during the April-September period grew by 35.8 per cent at 1,06,094 units compared to 78,144 units in the corresponding period last fiscal.

Excluding Logan, M&M sold 93,600 vehicles in the first six months of this fiscal against 78,144 in the same period up 20 per cent year-on-year.

M&M Farm Equipment sector, however, reported a 10.9 per cent decline in tractor sales (including exports) during September at 8,668 units compared to 9,729 units in September 2006.

Cumulative tractor sales (including imports) in the April-September period were down by 2.7 per cent at 49,518 units against 50,923 units in the same period last year.
