With the government considering a new Bill to make the Indian Institutes of Management answerable to Parliament, India Inc leaders say that the time has come to grant complete autonomy to these institutes and set up an independent regulator to oversee the education sector.

Apart from imposing a quota on the seats for the socially disadvantaged, the human resource development ministry plans an Institutes of Management Bill which would follow a similar law made under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 under which the IITs operate.

Do you think IIMs should be granted complete autonomy? Will more autonomy mean better administration?

Is it right for the Indian government to tighten the noose or should educational institutes like IIMs be left on their own, bereft of government interference? Tell us!
