With the Left warning of "extracting a heavy political price" apparently at the back of his mind, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the constraints or bottlenecks of transforming India into a top economic power are "within our economy and polity".

"I am convinced that there are no binding constraints on achieving our objectives. If at all there are constraints or bottlenecks, they are all within our economy and polity. They are domestic in nature," he told top bureaucrats on second Civil Service Day.

He told the civil servants that it was "up to all of us in the government" to deliver the vision of a prosperous, progressive and inclusive nation when the world is looking in wonder at the economic transformation taking place in the country and that there was a consensus that India would be among the top three economies of the world by 2025.

His comments came a day after the CPI(M) warned the Centre not to take its support for granted and bluntly told the Congress leadership to ensure that the UPA coalition changes course.

"Failure to do so will extract a heavy political price", it said. The Prime Minister utilised the occasion to speak glowingly on economic reforms saying they have created the conditions for sustained and rapid economic growth.

"It is this economic growth that has provided governments across the country the necessary resources to tackle the problems of under-development," he said adding that the Centre was making unpreceded investments in the social sectors.
