Sensex ends 26 points down amid choppy trade

It was a quite day for markets as they consolidated after seeing a significant run up. The markets ended the day in negative terrain amid choppy trade. However the select capital goods stocks witness buying interest.

The Sensex closed down 25.70 points or 0.19% at 13680.83. It has touched an intra day high of 13,790.82 and an intra day low of 13,643.47.

The Nifty was down 9.30 points or 0.24% at 3945.45.

About 1190 shares have advanced, 1303 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, BHEL, L&T, GlaxoSmithKline, Zee Tele and ABB were the top gainers on the indices.

Satyam, Bharti Airtel, HLL, ONGC, Siemens and HCL Tech were the top losers on the indices.

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.26% or 14.73 points at 5,615.29.

The BSE Small Cap Index was up 0.25% or 16.38 points at 6,480.16.

The BSE Auto Index moved up 0.25% or 13.40 points at 5,332.83.  Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Hero Honda, Sundram and Bajaj Auto gained.

The BSE Bankex ended with moderate gained 0.28% or 19.85 points at 7,146.93.  IOB, Bank of Baroda,  HDFC Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank and Vijaya Bank advanced.

The BSE Capital Goods Index surged 1.17% or 105.57 points at 9,110.10. Praj Industries, Alstom Projects, Aban Offshore, Thermax and ABB spurted.

The BSE FMCG Index was down 0.9% or 18.14 points at 1,992.98. Shaw Wallace, HLL, P&G, ITC and United Spirits witness selling pressure.

The BSE Health Care Index ended flat 0.04 % or 1.45 points at 3,719.76. GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth, Pfizer, Divis Labs and Aventis Pharma rose.

The BSE IT Index fell 0.38% or 19.46 points at 5,134.80.  Mphasis BFL, Patni Computer, Satyam, HCL Tech and HCL Info declined.

The BSE Metal Index rose 0.61% or 53.81 points at 8,894.81. Welspun Guj, Sterlite Ind, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, SAIL ended positive.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index ended flat down 0.5% or 31.07 points at 6,194.47. Petronet LNG, Reliance Natura, ONGC, MRPL slipped.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8873.18 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33020.97 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5531.48 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 47425.63 crore.
