Genpact, India's top BPO employer

Business process outsourcing giant Genpact has emerged as the largest employer in the Indian IT and ITes space with 19,700 employees, closely followed by US-based Accenture with a headcount of 19,000, according to a latest study.

It is followed by Wipro [Get Quote] BPO with 12,900 and IBM Daksh with 10,000 people, according to the latest edition of 'India's Top ITes and BPO companies' by Dun and Bradstreet, which was released in New Delhi on Tuesday evening.
India's ICICI [Get Quote] Onesource and HCL [Get Quote] BPO Services have featured among the top 10 biggest employers for this year with headcount of 8,000 and 7,500 respectively.

According to the list compiled by Bradstreet quoting Nasscom (National Association of Software and Service Companies), Genpact has become the top ITes and BPO company for this year overtaking WNS, which has come to the second spot with 7,500 employees.

Wipro BPO and HCL Technologies BPO continued to be among the top five companies. TCS [Get Quote] made it to the top 15 list and Infosys [Get Quote] climbed three places to seventh position in the 2005-06 ranking, as compared to the previous year, it said.

The Indian ITes and BPO sector is estimated to have shown growth of 38.5 per cent this year at $7.2 billion with an addition of 10,000 employees taking the total number to 415,000, it said.

About 200 companies are profiled in the 2006 edition and the listing parameters used were -- employee size, verticals serviced and locations of delivery centres.
