Maruti Udyog's [Get Quote] popular 'Zen' model could well be nearing the end of the road, with the company likely to stop production of the compact car or reduce it from this month end to make way for other large-selling models like 'Swift', 'WagonR' and 'Alto.'

"Maruti may stop production of Zen or reduce (production) from March to make way for other models," sources said, though they added that the 'Zen' brand will continue.

The model, once among the top-selling brands of the country's largest carmaker, has witnessed dwindling sales since the introduction of the Swift and rising popularity of WagonR and Alto models.

Industry watchers believe that the company may come out with an all-new model under the same brand in the coming months.

The Zen, which has seen monthly sales come down to about 4,000 units now, was introduced in the market in 1993. The company came out with an all-new redesigned model of the Zen in 2003.

In fiscal 2004-05, Maruti sold 65,000 units of the Zen in the market.
