Does India need more IIMs?

January 12, 2006 15:00 IST

The Union human resource development ministry has turned down a request from the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore to set up a campus in Singapore.

The ministry says that the prestigious B-schools must first meet domestic demand and set up more IIMs in the country before venturing overseas.

With this, the IIMs' plans of going global and further enhancing their brand value internationally have suffered a setback.

Do you agree with the government? Or should IIMs be allowed to open campuses abroad? Does India need more IIMs? What do you think?
