Anil Ambani-controlled Adlabs [Get Quote] and Hindustan Times' HT Music & Entertainment have bagged licences in the second phase of FM radio expansion, including Delhi and Mumbai.

Company sources said that Adlabs has won the licence in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Banglore while HT music has bagged licences in Delhi , Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The government is selling 338 frequencies across 91 cities in the second phase of FM Radio licensing. Of these, 64 radio stations in 13 cities had gone for financial bidding on Friday.

The India Today group, which is participating in the second phase of private FM radio licensing, on Friday said it has bid for licences in nine cities, including Delhi and Mumbai.

The group -- which early this month sold its FM radio business to a consortium of NDTV, Malaysia's Astro and Hyderabad-based Value Lab -- said that it was hopeful of prospects in this round.

"I think people are realistic this time round. We don't want to overbid," a senior company official said. Asked whether selling of an established brand like Red FM, which was running services in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and starting with a new one was a challenge, he said that the company was hopeful of its prospects this time as well.

"We have learnt a lot of lessons from the first round and these would come handy now," he added.

The government has shortlisted a total of 84 companies to bid for 338 FM radio stations across 91 cities. It has invited financial bids for 64 radio stations in 13 A and A+ cities.

A total of 29 companies, including HT Music and Entertainment, Adlabs, Radio Today Broadcasting and Radio Mid-Day, had submitted financial bids for 64 FM radio stations in 13 A and A+ cities.
