12 textile industry parks planned

Finance Minister P Chidambaram presented the 2006-07 Union Budget in Parliament on Tuesday.

The textile upgradation fund allocation to be raised to Rs 55 crore (Rs 550 million) in 2006-07 from Rs 455 crore (Rs 4.45 billion) following good response in the last two years.

The government also announced setting up of 12 textile industry parks of which 7 have been approved and ten more in the pipeline.

An allocation of Rs 189 crore provided for this. A National Jute Board to be set up. Like woolmark, there will be a handloom mark to certify its quality.
