Indian Co to export tractors to North America

BS Regional Bureau | February 18, 2006 04:02 IST

New Holland Tractors (India), a 100 per cent subsidiary of tractors and farm machinery manufacturer CNH Global NV, is planning to export tractors manufactured in India to North America this year.

The company currently exports tractors from India to 24 countries in southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and South America.

Mario Gasparri, managing director and chief executive officer, New Holland Tractors (India), said, "We will start exporting to North America this year. At present, our plants in North America and Europe cover this market. We are, however, looking at ramping up supplies from India."

Exports contribute 25 per cent of New Holland Tractors' revenue in India.

The company has a manufacturing facility at Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) with a capacity to manufacture 30,000 units annually.

In 2005, the company sold 12,434 tractors in the country. "This year, we intend to sell 18,000 units," Gasparri said.

Gasparri was speaking at the launch of a 39 HP tractor, New Holland 3130 HX. The company has not been able to garner a significant market share in the 31-40 HP segment.

The company plans "to strengthen its presence in this rapidly growing segment through this launch."

"Andhra Pradesh is a key market for us and we rank third in tractor sales in the state in the 41-60 HP segment. We are targeting sales of 1,300 tractors in the state this year," Gasparri said. The company has 330 dealers across India, with around 20 in Andhra Pradesh.

CNH Global registered net sales of $11.8 billion in 2005 with two-thirds coming from the agricultural equipment segment and the remaining from construction equipment. It has 45 plants, 33 R&D centres and 12,400 dealers across the globe.
