While the Kerala government slapped a blanket ban on Pepsi and Coca Cola, other states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have barred sale of these two companies' products in educational and government institutions, besides hospitals.

The action by these states came after NGO Centre for Science and Environment unveiled a report, claiming that 11 products of these two companies contained pesticide residues much above the permissible level.
