Sensex gains 130 points to 11,145

The markets closed for the second time above some important levels, which they were struggling with a couple of days back.

The Asian markets showed significant recovery during the day with the pause in interest rate hike by the FOMC.

It was a good closing today for the second day running and the highest close for Sensex, Nifty since May 18 supported by extremely positive breadth and the volumes picking up. Not only the frontliners participated but even the midcaps were roaring.

The Sensex closed with gains of 130.21 points or 1.2% at 11,145.18. The Nifty gained 42 points to close at 3,255.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,387.20 up 88 points or 1.66%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,497.74, up 88 points or 2%.

The rally was seen in indices across sectors. All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the green. Consumer Durables, FMCG and metal stocks led the rally followed by capital goods and auto stocks.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 3.7% at 2,860.40. Titan and BPL were among top gainers.

The BSE FMCG Index was up 2.2% at 1,934.67. Shaw Wallace, Britannia, ITC, Tata Tea and Nirma closed in green.
The BSE Metal Index advanced by 2.05% at 8,055.31. Jindal Steel, Sesa Goa, NALCO, SAIL and Hindalco witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Auto Index added 1.9% at 4,689.03. MRF, Tube Investment, Tata Motors, Apollo Tyres and M&M closed in positive terrain.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.8% at 7,402.25. Gammon India, Alstom Projects, Carborundum, Praj Industries and KEC Infrastructure closed higher.

The BSE IT Index was up by 1.4% at 4,072.99 moved up. Satyam, HCL Tech, Moser Baer and TCS jumped.

The BSE Health Care Index was up by 1.3% at 3,341.27. Aventis Pharma, Divis Labs, Orchid Chemical, GlaxoSmithKline and Wockhardt were among the major gainers.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index rose 1% at 5,097.81. HPCL, Chennai Petro, ONGC, BPCL and Reliance advanced higher.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.8% at 5,056.99. Bank of India, Centurion BoP, Union Bank, SBI and Oriental Bank were among the gainers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6288.96 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22387.41 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2889.41 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 31565.78 crore.

Sensex @ 1439 hrs

The markets are trading in green but are off the day's high on account of pressure in select index pivotals.

On the Nifty stocks like ICICI Bank, HDFC and Bharti Airtel are trading weak.

At 14.39 pm IST, the Sensex is up 92.29 points or 0.84% at 11107.26, and the Nifty up 33.15 points or 1.03% at 3245.55.

About 1614 shares have advanced, 689 shares declined, and 80 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the indices are Tata Motors, SBI, ITC and Oriental Bank.

Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, HDFC and Tata Power.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 224.20 up 0.56% from its previous close of Rs 222.95.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 987.05 up 0.98% from its previous close of Rs 977.45.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,696.00 up 0.76% from its previous close of Rs 1,683.15.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 176.25 up 2.23% from its previous close of Rs 172.40.

Sensex @ 1350 hrs

The markets continue to trade at the higher level tracking its Asian peers. At 13.50 pm IST, the Sensex is up 139.11 points or 1.26% at 11,154.08, and the Nifty up 44.80 points or 1.39% at 3,257.2.

About 1607 shares have advanced, 642 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

All BSE sectoral indices are trading in green. Consumer durables, auto and FMCG are the major gainers on the indices.
Top gainers on the indices are Tata Motors up 3.78%, Satyam up 2.68%, ITC up 2.61% and Oriental Bank up 3.61%.  BHEL and HDFC Bank are the only losers on the indices.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 226.00 up 1.37% from its previous close of Rs 222.95.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 988.15 up 1.09% from its previous close of Rs 977.45.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,702.00 up 1.12% from its previous close of Rs 1,683.15.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 176.90 up 2.61% from its previous close of Rs 172.40.

Sensex @ 1240 hrs

The markets continue to move northwards on the back of buying interest in scrips across sectors.

At 12.40 pm, the Sensex was up 158.15 points or 1.44% at 11173.12, and the Nifty up 44.05 points or 1.37% at 3256.45.

About 1532 shares have advanced, 612 shares declined, and 77 shares are unchanged.

All BSE sectoral indices were trading in green.

There was no loser on the Sensex and on Nifty only 2 stocks were trading in red.

The BSE Consumer durable index has outperformed the other indices; it was up by 2.33% at 2823.39.

The BSE FMCG, auto, healthcare and metal indices were up nearly 2%.

Buying was also seen in bank, capital goods, technology and oil & gas stocks.

The BSE smallcap & midcap index was up 1.68% and 1.65% respectively.

Tata Motors, Dr Reddys Labs, ITC, Ranbaxy Labs, Oriental Bank and GlaxoSmithKline were top gainers on the indices.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 176.50 up 2.38% from its previous close of Rs 172.40.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 221.00 up 2.5% from its previous close of Rs 215.60.

BSE 100 gainers
Balrampur Chini Mills was quoting at Rs 115.15, up Rs 9.40, or 8.89%.
Titan Industries was quoting at Rs 665.70, up Rs 37.15, or 5.91%.
Financial Technologies was quoting at Rs 1,232.00, up Rs 65.35, or 5.60%.

Sensex @ 1118 hrs

The markets are trading strong at the higher level with recovery seen in Asian markets.

At 11.18 am IST, the Sensex is up 88.54 points or 0.80% at 11103.51, and the Nifty up 31.70 points or 0.99% at 3244.1.

About 1292 shares have advanced, 543 shares declined, and 55 shares are unchanged.

All BSE sectoral indices are trading in green. Metal, auto and FMCG are the major gainers on the indices.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance Energy up 2.47%, Tata Motors up 1.87% and ITC up 1.68%

Top gainers on the Nifty are Oriental Bank up 3.03% and GlaxoSmithKline up 2.90%.

Top losers on the indices are BHEL, HDFC Bank, NTPC, PNB and Sun Pharma.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 224.10 up 0.52% from its previous close of Rs 222.95.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 981.95 up 0.46% from its previous close of Rs 977.45.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,685.70 up 0.15% from its previous close of Rs 1,683.15.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 175.30 up 1.68% from its previous close of Rs 172.40.

Sensex @ 1025 hrs

The markets have bounced back after slipping a little bit in morning trade. At 10:25 am, the Sensex was up 47 points at 11,062. The Nifty was up 13 points at 3,226.

Banking stocks were leading the market today, as Fed paused the interest rate hike.

The BSE Bankex gained 1.18% as Allahabad Bank, Centurion BoP, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Oriental Bank, Andhra Bank, IOB, PNB, ICICI Bank, Union Bank and UTI Bank were minting the money.

Hero Honda, ICICI Bank, SBI, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Energy, PNB, Oriental Bank and HCL Tech were the top gainers.

The losers were BHEL, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, NTPC, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank and Grasim.

All BSE indices were in positive terrain.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs

The markets were witnessing selling pressure in opening trade, as global markets were down and investors worried that more increases might still be ahead. At 9:57 am, the Sensex was down 20 points at 10994.

The Nifty was down 12 points at 3200.

SBI, Hindalco, Rel Comm, HLL, BHEL, ACC, ICICI Bank, SAIL, Wipro, Cipla, TCS, Grasim, PNG and ONGC were the top losers.

However, Hero Honda, Bharti, India Infoline, HPCL, Tata Tea, Balrampur, Bajaj Hind, Indiabulls, Pantaloon, Syndicate Bank and Tata Power gained.

Asian markets were witnessing selling pressure. Japan's Nikkei share average plunged 174.38 points or 1.13% at 15,290.28.

FIIs were net buyers of $24.9 million and MFs net buyers of Rs 99.3 crore (Rs 993 million) in equity on August 7.

US stocks ended modestly lower; Dow Jones fell 45.79 points, or 0.41%, to 11,173.59 after fluctuating shortly after the Fed's announcement.
