Tata Sky DTH launched in India August 08, 2006 16:31 IST Tata Sky, the DTH venture of Tata group and Rupert Murdoch's Star group, on Monday went on air with the initial cost to users pegged at Rs 4,000 toward satellite dish and other hardware. Tata Sky will be the second private DTH operator in the country after Zee's Dish TV, which has around 12 lakh subscribers. While Tatas hold 80 per cent stake in the venture, the remaining 20 per cent is owned by Star. Tata Sky CEO Vikram Kaushik said apart from the initial acquisition cost of Rs 4,000 for a satellite dish and other hardware, our customers would require to pay around Rs 200 as monthly charges for the service. Kaushik said that the service would be available in 300 cities and would gradually be expanded to other areas.
