The director general-resettlement, under the ministry of defence, is working on plans to run management programmes through IIM Bangalore for officers retiring over the rank of major general and lieutenant general based in south India.

Addressing the 'Defence-Industry Partnership in Human Resource Management,' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry on Tuesday, Maj Gen K S Sindhu, director general re-settlement, ministry of defence, said that a similar exercise in north India with MDI Gurgaon and IIM Lucknow has proved a success with many north Indian companies absorbing senior Army officers.

Director general-resettlement is also working closely with IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Bombay for the western region.

Servicemen and retired ex-servicemen should be given a second career option by industry as it gets considerable business from the armed forces. The defence ministry gives companies close to Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion) of business and armed forces personnel and their families purchase goods and services worth Rs 6,000 crore (Rs 60 billion) from the market.

Sindhu called on corporates to carry out job audits and identify areas where retired ex-servicemen can be employed.
